Optically pure (L)-vinylglycine has been synthesised by two different methods. The first of these involves protected (L)-glutamate esters of N-hydroxy-2-seleno-pyridine. Such esters are shown to undergo the same decarboxylotive rearrangement as their thio-analogues.
