    Platinum-group elements for the Kudi ophiolite, western Kunlun
    摘要:
    The analyses of PGE characteristics for the Kudi ophiolite, western Kunlun, are reported in this note. The Ir-depleted anomalous ancient upper mantle represented by the Kudi mantle peridotites had been percolated and mixed by remelted oceanic crust material from a supra-subduction zone, leaving the rocks relatively enriched in Pd. The PGE contents in the Kudi cumulate pyroxenites and gabbros vary from 2.4 to 23.94 ng/g, and the highest values are in pyroxenites. The Pd/Ir ratios increase from the pyroxenites to the gabbros. The PGE patterns for the Kudi cumulate rocks are steeply positively sloped. The Pd enrichment in these rocks is similar to that in pyroxenites from the Thetford ophiolite and the Troodos ophiolite. The Kudi diabase and basalts have low PGE contents and positively sloped PGE patterns, and are comparable with the upper pillow lavas from the Troodos ophiolite, indicative of the environment of back-are spreading center in a supra-subduction zone.

    A process for concentrating at least one of (a) individual halogenoanthraquinones (b) binary mixtures of di-halogenoanthraquinones and (c) binary mixtures of trihalogenoanthraquinones, from a mixture containing at least two halogenoanthraquinones, comprising subjecting said mixture containing at least two halogenoanthraquinones to fractional vacuum distillation in a heated rectification column having an efficiency corresponding to about 20 to 50 theoretical stages with an absolute pressure at the top of about 0.5 to 50 mm Hg and a reflux to take-off ratio of about 5/1 to 50/1. Advantageously, distillation is carried out continuously in a cascade of columns, the products withdrawn from the top of the first column being 2-chloroanthraquinone in the first stage, 1-chloroanthraquinone in the second stage, 1,6- and 1,7-dichloroanthraquinone in the third stage and 1,5- and 1,8-dichloroanthraquinone in the fourth stage, 1,4,5- and 1,4,6-trichloroanthraquinone being obtained in the sump of the 4th stage and being separated therefrom by film evaporation. The mixture of halogenoanthraquinones is advantageously a mixture of chloroanthraquinones such as is obtained by the action of chlorine, chloric acid or a chlorate on various industrial mixtures of nitro- or sulfo-anthraquinones.

    A composition for use with liquid crystal compositions in liquid crystal display devices, which possesses both a chromophoric moiety and a helical ordering moiety. The helical ordering moiety is capable of helically ordering a mixture of liquid crystal material and helichromic compound. The helichromic compound can be utilized in conventional "guest-host" and "twist nematic" displays as well as in unique helichromic displays. When used in helichromic displays, the helichromic compounds eliminate after-image scattering and enable the display to be operated at reduced voltages.

    A method for marking a liquid petroleum hydrocarbon. The method comprises adding to the liquid petroleum hydrocarbon at least one substituted anthraquinone dye having formula (I) wherein R1 and R2 independently are hydrogen, hydroxy, OR11, amino or NR11R12; R3 and R5 independently are alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, heteroalkyl or heterocyclic; R4 and R6 independently are hydrogen or alkyl; R7, R8, R9 and R10 independently are cyano, nitro or hydrogen, provided that at least two of R7, R8, R9 and R10 are cyano or nitro; R11 is alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, heteroalkyl, heterocyclic or alkanoyl; R12 is hydrogen or alkyl; and wherein the substituted anthraquinone dye(s) has an absorption maximum in the range from 690 nm to 1000 nm.
