Co-condensation of five equivalents Me2SiCl2 and one equivalent RR′SiCl2 with lithium provides the five- and six-membered rings RR′Si(Me2Si)4 and RR′Si(Me2Si)5. This method provides a direct route to the phenyl substitued methylcyclopolysilanes (R,R′ Me, Ph) which can be used for further functionalization of the silicon rings. It also provides several news sterically hindered methylcyclopolysilanes

Si−Si bonds is an important transformation in organic synthesis. Herein, we present a unified electrochemical strategy for the efficient and selective synthesis of disilanes, oligosilanes, and cyclosilanes—which are important precursors for the synthesis of functional organic and polymeric compounds—from readily available chlorosilanes.
By use of salt elimination, the transition-metal-substituted cyclopentasilanes Me9Si5-Co(CO)3PPh3. Me9Si5-Fe(CO)2Cp, Me9Si5-SiMe2Co(CO)3PPh3 and Me9Si5-SiMe2Fe(CO)2Cp were prepared and characterized.
