2-methyl-2-pentene were heated with manganese(III) acetate at 100 °C in two mixed solvents of glacial acetic acid and acetic anhydride and of propionic acid and propionic anhydride in a nitrogen flow. γ-Acyloxy carboxylic acids, γ-lactones and saturated and unsaturated carboxylic acids were obtained, these oxidative products being considered to be adducts of acetic and propionic acids.
