Imines, RCH=N-ZH, possessing a range of ZH groups (Z=CHCOPh, CHCOSR, CHCONHR, CHP(O)(OEt)2, 2-CH-pyridyl, 2-CH-thiazolyl, and 9-fluorenyl) undergo thermal 1,2-prototropy generating azomethine ylides stereospecifically. The intermediate azomethine ylides undergo cycloaddition reactions with dipolarophiles either via an endo-transition state or via both endo- and exo-transition states to give polyfunctional

Nanomaterials are considered as suitable heterogeneous catalysts for many organic reactions. Herein nano-tube TiO2 has been reported as a heterogeneous catalyst, for synthesis of imines in sunlight at room temperature under solvent-free conditions. The condensation of less electrophilic carbonyl compounds with poorly nucleophilic amines was afforded imines in excellent yields. (c) 2010 Mona Hosseini-Sarvari. A dicopper(I,I) complex [Cu2(L1) (Cl)2] (1), bearing a Cu2Cl2 core spanned by a naphthyridine–diimine ligand is synthesized by the treatment of CuCl with 2,7–bis(N–mesitylmethylimino)–1,8–naphthyridine (L1). The catalytic efficacy of 1 is assessed for aerobic oxidative synthesis of imines from alcohols and amines. The title complex is found to be an excellent catalyst for a wide variety of alcohols

A range of substituents is capable of inducing thermal 1,3-dipole formation in imines by activation of the CH proton as shown by trapping experiments with dipolarophiles.
