A close analogue to diazide: Azido isocyanate, N3‐NCO, is formed by a stepwise photo‐induced decomposition of carbonyl diazide, CO(N3)2, and characterized by matrix IR, UV/Vis spectroscopy, and DFT calculations (see scheme). The azido carbonyl nitrene intermediate N3C(O)N has also been characterized.
