Cyclization of N,N′-[N-(benzyloxycarbonyl) (Z)-iminobis(methylenecarbonyl)]bis[glycine] dimethyl ester to the hydantoin derivative took place easily under mild ammonolysis conditions. Replacement of Z by p-methoxy-benzyloxycarbonyl also led to the cyclization. Influence of different substituent groups on the cyclization was studied with some N-Z-dipeptide methyl esters.
