The synthesis of the title compounds is described. When these are heated in aqueous media, the alkylamino residue is quantitatively eliminated. An intramolecular elimination process with partial carbanionic character is found for both compounds. Whereas the threo compound undergoes a stereospecific syn-elimination in agreement with the proposed mechanism, the erythro isomer gives a mixture of products
