The absorptionspectra and emission spectra of 4-substituted2H-1-benzo/napthopyran-2-ones 3a-1 have been determined in THF and DMSO. The substituent at the 4-position of the 2H-benzo/napthopyran-2-one, establishes a compact conjugation pathway in which the pyran-2-one nucleus can act as an acceptor ring.

The present invention provides compounds of formula I that bind to mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase-2 (ALDH2), and methods of using said compounds to treat patients with i.a. cancer, Fanconi anemia and alcohol-related disorders. [Formula should be inserted here] wherein i.a. A is O or NH; RA is H, cycloalkyl or alkyl optionally substituted with a carbocycle; X1 and X2 are N or CH; R1, R2, R3 and R4 are H; and Z is an optionally substituted 5- or 6-membered aromatic ring.

A facile and effective method for the synthesis of some benzothiazolederivatives is described. The method involves the action of aryl aldehyde and o-aminothiophenol in acetic acid resulting into in situ formation of the thiol substituted Schiff's base and its cyclization to 2-aryl benzothiazole upon prolonged heating.

A cesium carbonate (Cs2CO3)-catalyzed [3+3] cycloaddition reaction of coumarin-diazo reagents with glycine imino esters is established to produce tetrahydro-1,2,4-triazines in good yields with excellent regioselectivity. One-pot cycloaddition/oxidation protocol could further provide practical access to a series of new coumarin-decorated 1,2,4-triazines.
