A silver-catalyzed sequential formation of two C–C bonds for the construction of a series of polysubstituted quinolines from anilines, aldehydes, and alcohols under mild conditions has been developed. The transformation is effective for a broad range of substrates, including aliphatic alcohols, arylalkanols, cycloalkanols, and ethylene glycol, thereby permitting the expansion of the constituent architectures

One-Pot Ring-Closing Metathesis/1,3-Dipolar Cycloaddition through Assisted Tandem Ruthenium Catalysis: Synthesis of a Dye with Isoindolo[2,1-<i>a</i>]quinoline Structure
The one‐pot tandem reaction of N‐alkyl‐N‐allyl‐2‐vinylaniline derivatives with benzo‐ or naphthoquinones and a ruthenium–alkylidene catalyst leads to isoindolo[2,1‐a]quinolines in a variety of colors, which can be altered by exchanging the substituent on the core heterocycle (see scheme). This reaction offers a new synthetic method for π‐conjugated small molecules from simple aniline derivatives.

A copper‐catalyzed, intramolecular borylative cyclization of vinyl arenes with imines is reported, which affords enantio‐enriched indolines as a single diastereomer under mild conditions. A benzylcopper species is generated by Cu‐Bpin addition to the alkene, which then acts as a nucleophile for intramolecular imine addition.
