New cyclic aromatic carbene ligands bearing remote amino groups were developed. The oxidative addition of Pd(0) into the chloride precursors yielded the corresponding Pd(II) complexes whose carbene ligand was demonstrated to have stronger donor ability than classical NHCs.

We developed a facilesynthesis of PY-S from pyronin with a high yield up to 90%. The investigation of the reaction mechanism disclosed that the trisulfur radical anion (S3˙−) played a key role in the formation of the CS bond. The new established methodology was proved to have a short reaction time, operation easiness, and low toxicity and is suitable for the gram-scale synthesis of PY-S.

This unusual complex is stabilized by agnostic interactions involving an adjacent phenyl group. This complex is the second example of a stable cationic 14-electron palladium(II)–carbene complex to have been reported so
