    A method of synthesizing a hyperbranched polymer by living radical polymerization of a monomer in the presence of a metal catalyst includes at least adding a compound or setting the amount of the monomer in the living radical polymerization. The compound added is at least a compound represented by R 1 -A or a compound represented by R 2 —B—R 3 , where R 1 denotes hydrogen, an alkyl group (1-10 carbons), aryl group (1-10 carbons), or aralkyl group (7-10 carbons), A denotes a cyano group, hydroxyl group, or nitro group, R 2 and R 3 denote hydrogen, alkyl groups (1-10 carbons), aryl groups (6-10 carbons), aralkyl groups (7-10 carbons), or dialkylamino groups (2-10 carbons), and B denotes a carbonyl group or sulfonyl group. Setting of the monomer amount includes setting the amount of monomer to be mixed into a reaction system at one mixing to be less than the total monomer to be mixed with the reaction system.

    A precoated metal plate for heavy forming use comprising a metal plate having on its surface a coating which is prepared by applying an aqueous composition consisting essentially of a binder component (A) and hard inorganic microparticles (B) and which is 0.05 to 5 µm thickness, the binder component (A) being an aqueous resin or a combination of aqueous resin and a water-soluble chromium compound containing 30 to 90% by weight of hexavalent chromium, the microparticles having Mohs' hardness of 3 to 9 and an average grain diameter of 0.1 to 20 µm, and the coating being characterized by having a percentage of horizontal sectional area of the inorganic microparticles protruded beyond the film surface of said binder component at the film surface of 5% or more. The coated metal plate is specifically useful for heavy forming purpose.

    A coating type chromate conversion coating composition comprising as essential components (A) 5∼500g/l as solid of an aqueous emulsion of polymer particles having an average grain diameter of 0.1∼3µm which are crosslinked or whose glasstransition point is within a range of 15°∼110°C, the said polymer being prepared by an emulsion polymerization of at least oneα,β-ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of particular protective colloid defined in the specification, (B) 2∼250g/l as solid of a polyacrylic acid or acrylic copolymer, (C) 5∼500g/l as Cr of a water soluble chromium compound, 30∼50 wt% of the total chromium contained being trivalent chromium, and (D) 5∼1,000g/l of metal oxide microparticles having an average diameter of 0.1 to 20µm, selected from MnO, TiO₂ Fe₂O₃, Fe₃O₄, CrO₃, Al₂O₃, ZnO, PbO₂ and CuO, the solid weight ratio of (A) to (C) being 10:1 to 1:5, the weight ratio of (D) to (C) being 5:1 to 1:10 and pH of the composition being 1∼3. The present coating composition isspecifically useful for the pre-treatment of metal substrate for coating, giving excellent corrosion-resistance and coating adhesive properties etc.

    The present invention relates to fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin composition comprising 0.1 to 10 mass% of a (meth)acrylic-based polymer, 1 to 70 mass% of reinforcing fiber, and 20 to 98.9 mass% of thermoplastic resin, wherein the (meth)acrylic-based polymer has, in a side chain, at least one functional group selected from a hydroxyl group, a carboxyl group, an amide group, and an urea group, and has a cohesive energy density (CED) of 385 to 550MPa. The present invention provides, particularly in the case of using a polyolefin-based resin as matrix resin, a fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin composition and a reinforcing fiber bundle which have high adhesiveness and good mechanical characteristics.

    A comb copolymer viscosity modifier may be made by polymerization comprising at least, or consisting essentially of, the following monomers: (a) a hydrogenated polybutadiene-based (alk)acrylate ester macromonomer (which repeat units may comprise from 7.0 wt% to 18 wt% of the repeat units of the comb copolymer viscosity modifier); (b) a C3-C8 alkyl (alk)acrylate ester monomer (which repeat units may comprise from 40 wt% to 71 wt% or from 45 wt% to 64 wt% of the repeat units of the comb copolymer viscosity modifier); and (c) a C12-C24 alkyl (alk)acrylate ester monomer, wherein repeat units based on the C12-C24 alkyl (alk)acrylate ester monomer comprise at least 21.0 wt% (and optionally up to 35.0 wt%) of repeat units of the comb copolymer viscosity modifier. Lubricant compositions comprising the comb copolymer viscosity modifier, as well as uses thereof and methods for modifying viscosity, are also contemplated herein.
