    The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a hydroxy-aromatic compound. The process comprises the steps of bringing a starting compound according to formula (I) together with an alkanol hemiacetal according to formula (II) to form a reaction mixture. The reaction mixture is then brought to conditions whereby the hydroxy-aromatic compound is formed. Formula (I) is: wherein R1 and R2 each individually are a C1 - C20 alkyl group.
