  β-Sulfatoäthylsulfonyl-aminophenol-Verbindungen der Formel (1), in welcher das eine Y die β-Sulfatoäthylsulfonyl-Gruppe und das andere Y ein Wasserstoffatom darstellt und R für ein Wasserstoffatom, eine Alkylgruppe von 1 bis 4 C-Atomen, eine Alkoxygruppe von 1 bis 4 C-Atomen, ein Chloratom, ein Bromatom oder die Nitrogruppe steht, werden in hoher Reinheit und mit hohem Veresterungsgrad durch Umsetzung von β-Hydroxyäthylsulfonyl-aminophenol-Verbindungen der Formel (2) in welcher das eine X eine β-Hydroxyäthylsulfonyl-Gruppe und das andere X eine Wasserstoffatom ist und R die oben genannte Bedeutung besitzt, mit einem Schwefelsäure/ Schwefeltrioxid-Gemisch, das anteilig aus der 1,5-fach bis 4-fach molaren Menge an 100%iger Schwefelsäure und der 0,9-fach bis 1,1-fach molaren Menge an Schwefeltrioxid, bezogen auf Mol Ausgangsverbindung (2) besteht, hergestellt, wobei man die Umsetzung in gewöhnlichen Rührgefäßen bei 0 bis 120°C durchführt und hierbei innerhalb dieses Temperaturbereiches die Temperatur so hoch hält, daß das Reaktionsgemisch ausreichend dünnflüssig und somit rührfähig bleibt.

  Water-soluble monoazo dyes of the general formula X - SO₂ - A - N = N - W - - CO - NH - Z - SO₂ - Y       (1) wherein: X and Y are independently selected from vinyl, β-thiosulfatoethyl, β-bromoethyl, β-acetyloxyethyl, β-hydroxyethyl, β-phosphatoethyl, β-methylsulfonyloxyethyl, β-phenoxyethyl, β-sulfatoethyl, β-chlorethyl, β-phenylsulfonyloxy-ethyl and a group of the formula -CH₂-CH₂-NR¹R², in which R¹ and R² are independently selected from hydrogen, lower alkyl and sulfo-substituted lower alkyl; R is hydrogen, lower alkyl or sulfo-substituted lower alkyl; A is a phenylene or naphthylene radical optionally substituted with hydroxy, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, carboxy or sulfo; W is a phenylene or naphthylene radical optionally substituted with carboxy, sulfo, amino, carbamoyl unsubstituted or substituted, sulfamoyl unsubstituted or substituted, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxy or halogen; Z is a phenylene radical optionally substituted with halogen, lower alkoxy or lower alkyl; and the copper, chromium, cobalt and nickel metallized complex-dyes of said metal-free dyestuffs.
