Adsorption of Fe(ClO4)(3)(H2O)(6) onto chromatographic grade silica gel in the presence of alcohol (to be used for esterification) produces a supported reagent, Fe(ClO4)(3)(ROH)(6)/SiO2. This reagent, has been found effective for the rapid and high yield of esters, on grinding in the presence of carboxylic acids using pestle and mortar in the solid state.

A record display medium is provided which can offer a high display contrast and is less likely to cause a lowering of contrast or disappearance of display even in low temperature and high temperature regions. A polymeric material for a liquid crystal/polymer composite film comprising a liquid crystal present in a polymer matrix, a liquid crystal/polymer composite film using the material, and use of the record display medium are also provided. The polymeric material for a liquid crystal/polymer composite film comprising a liquid crystal present in a polymer matrix has a glass transition temperature of 150°C or above and is insoluble in water.
Non-aqueous based fragrance compositions containing a siloxane material are disclosed. The fragrance compositions are suitable for many applications including cosmetics, laundry care and personal care items. The fragrance compositions can also be used in air fresheners, particularly those air fresheners that contain heating elements.
