Highlyenantioselective cobalt-catalyzed hydrogenation of 1,1-diarylethenes was developed by using bench-stable chiral oxazoline iminopyridine–cobalt complexes as precatalysts. A unique o-chloride effect was observed to achieve high enantioselectivity.
