Two novel fullerene[60]-cyclodextrin conjugates have been prepared, they display the highest solubility in water reported to date. This is the first synthesis of such conjugates in which the linker is attached to the secondary rim of beta-CD. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A novel 2â¶1 (permethylated-β-cyclodextrin)âfullerene conjugate has been synthesised; highly soluble in cold water with formation of aggregates, it displays a negative solubility coefficient and has a partition coefficient between octanol and water (Log P = 1.58) in the suitable range for biological studies.
