calix[6]arene-based tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (TMPA) CoII complexes, differing by the nature of the cavity walls (anisole, phenol or quinone) are described. Compared to complexes obtained with simple TMPA ligands, devoid of a cavity, the funnel complexes display major differences in terms of complexation kinetics, stability, geometry, coordination to the labile site, anion affinity, and nuclearity.
