An Improved Manganese Pincer Catalyst for low Temperature Hydrogenation of Carbon Monoxide to Methanol

The synthesis of a new manganese-PNP-pincer complex with mixed-substitution at the phosphorus atoms of the ligand resulted in an improved catalyst for the homogeneously catalyzed, alcohol-assisted synthesis of methanol. This change in complex structure led to a doubling of the reaction rate. A turnover number of 4095 and an initial turnover frequency of 1633 h−1 could be achieved.
