Catalytic enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to 1,3-dithian-2-yl substituted aliphatic aldehydes: a new approach to optically active 2-(hydroxyalkyl)-1,3-dithianes

Asymmetric synthesis of 2-(hydroxyalkyl)-1,3-dithianes was achieved in good yields of up to 81% by using various 1,3-dithian-2-yl-substituted aliphatic aldehydes as substrates in the catalytic enantioselective addition of diethylzinc, With fair enantiomeric ratios of up to 85:15 in the enantiocontrolled ethylation step this synthetic approach provides an entry towards potential chiral building blocks. 3-Amino-4-iodothiophenes are obtained by iodocyclization of 1,3-dithianyl substituted propargylamine derivatives through iodine induced cleavage of dithiane ring in a bicyclic sulfonium intermediate. 1-(1,3-Dithian-2-yl)propargylamines are readily available by Au-catalyzed reaction of 1,3-dithiane-2-carbaldehydes, amines, and alkynes in a one-pot.

A total synthesis of (-)-secu'amamine A has been achieved exploiting TypeIIAnionRelayChemistry (ARC) to provide the full linear carbon and nitrogen skeleton in a single flask with the requisite stereochemistry and functionality. A mechanistic rationale is also proposed to account for the stereochemical outcome of the key aldol reaction leading to the advanced aza tricyclic core.

Silylethynyl pentacenes and compositions containing silylethynyl pentacenes are disclosed. Exemplary pentacene compounds have 6, 13 -silylethynyl substitution with one or more groups (e.g., R, R' and R") covalently bonded to each Si atom of the silylethynyl groups. Methods of making and using silylethynyl pentacenes and compositions containing silylethynyl pentacenes are also disclosed.
