    The present invention provides a process for preparing an alkoxymethyl alkynyl ether compound having a terminal triple bond of the following formula (4): H—C≡C(CH 2 ) a OCH 2 OCH 2 R (4), wherein R represents a hydrogen atom, an n-alkyl group having 1 to 9 carbon atoms, or a phenyl group, and “a” represents an integer of 1 to 10, the method comprising subjecting an alkynol compound having a terminal triple bond of the following formula (1): H—C≡C(CH 2 ) a OH (1), wherein “a” is as defined above, to an alkoxymethylation with a halomethyl alkyl ether compound of the following formula (3): RCH 2 OCH 2 X (3), wherein X represents a halogen atom, and R is as defined above, in the presence of a dialkylaniline compound of the following formula (2): [CH 3 (CH 2 ) b ][CH 3 (CH 2 ) c ]NC 6 H 5 (2), wherein b and c represent, independently of each other, an integer of 0 to 9, to form the alkoxymethyl alkynyl ether compound (4) having a terminal triple bond.

    Polymers having polyolefin segments as the side chain, with a structural unit represented by the following Formula (1): wherein A is an olefin polymer having a weight average molecular weight of 400 to 500,000; R is H, an alkyl group, or an aralkyl group; W and Z are each O, HN, or S; and x and y are each 0 or 1, with the proviso that at least one of them is 1. The polymer can be applied as an antistatic agent, a cosmetic additive, a releasing agent for toner, a pigment dispersant, a lubricant for vinyl chloride resins, a coating material, an emulsion composition and the like.

    The present invention relates to proteins involved in fatty acid synthesis, such as fatty acid synthases (FAS) variants, comprising one or more polypeptide chains, wherein said polypeptide chain(s) comprise one or more subunits comprising a malonyl/palmitoyl transferase domain (MPT domain), acetyl transferase domain (AT domain), and ketoacyl synthase domain (KS domain), and at least one amino acid substitution in the MPT domain at a position corresponding to R130, in the AT domain at a position corresponding to I306, and/or in the KS domain, preferably in the acyl binding channel, to modulate affinities of acyl intermediates, and optionally further amino acid substitution(s). The present invention relates to the respective polypeptide domains. The present invention further relates to nucleic acid molecules encoding the proteins (or the polypeptide domains) and to host cells containing said nucleic acid molecules. The present invention further relates to a method for the production of short fatty acids, CoA esters of short fatty acids, ethyl esters of short fatty acids, esters of short fatty acids with other metabolites, and/or enzyme bound short fatty acids (C6 to C12), comprising the expression of said nucleic acid molecules, preferably in said host cells.
