These aza-crown compounds have been explored to study ferric initiation of transferhydrogenation (TH) of ketones into their corresponding secondary alcohols in the presence of 2-propanol with a basic t-BuOK solution, achieving a high conversion (up to 95%) by a ferric complex with 2 in a low loading (0.05 mol%).

Abstract The synthesis and characterization of the new macrocyclic copper complex [Cu(H8TAAB](Cl04)2 are described (H8TAAB = 5,6,11,12,17,18,23,24-octahydro-tetrabenzo[b, f, j, n][1,5,9,13]tetraazacyclohexadecine). The crystal structure of the complex ([Cu(H8TAAB)(H2O)2](C1O4)2·2H2O) was determined. Crystal data: formula CuN4C28H36Cl2O12, space group P 1 , Z = 2, a = 9.475(2), b = 9.457(1), c = 18
