Metal-Free One-Pot Conversion of Electron-Rich Aromatics into Aromatic Nitriles

Various electron-rich aromatics could be smoothly converted into the corresponding aromatic nitriles in good to moderate yields by treatment of electron-rich aromatics with POCl3 and DMF, followed by treatment with molecular iodine in aqueous ammonia. The present reaction is a novel metal-free one-pot method for the preparation of aromatic nitriles from electron-rich aromatics.

A practical and convenient Co-catalyzed alkylation method for the facile introduction of various alkyl chains into organic electronically significant heteroaryl compounds, including thiophenes, furans, selenophenes, and pyrroles, is reported. Under well-optimized reaction conditions, a wide range of alkylated heteroaryl compounds have beeen efficiently prepared in moderate to good isolated yields.
The present invention provides a method for preparing ester or thioester that can conduct catalytic esterification reaction with an equimolar amount of carboxylic acid and alcohol, or catalytic thioesterification reaction with carboxylic acid and an equimolar amount or small amount of thiol, and can be expected as an industrial method that needs an enormous amount of synthesis in the light of green chemistry. When heating reflux is conducted by using a nonpolar solvent, it is preferable to remove azeotropic water from the reaction system.
