Further, the compounds of the present invention can be formed from non-petroleum based renewable materials. The compounds of the present invention can be used as antimicrobials, and bleaching agents. The compounds of the present invention are also suitable for use as coupling agents.

    Process for the preparation of a modified polybutylene terephthalate resin which generates little gas such as tetrahydrofuran in high-temperature service and a reduced amount of sublimate when melted. The polyester is prepared from an acid component comprising terephthalic acid or a lower alcohol ester thereof as the main component and a diol component comprising 1,4-butanediol as the main component through esterification or transesterification and polycondensation, in which 0.001 to 0.5 mole% (based on the acid component) of at least one specific aromatic sulfonic acid compound is added before the completion of the polycondensation.
