Twenty-one 2-(α-branched alkyl) phenols and thirty-one 4-(α-branched alkyl) phenols with alkyl groups containing from 5 to 13 carbon atoms were synthesised by condensation, in ether, of a 2- or 4-acyl-phenol or the more soluble-anisole with an alkylmagnesium bromide, dehydration to the alkenyl derivative, hydrogenation, and, where required, demethylation of the anisole.
