  AbstractNitration of ethoxysanguinarine with equimolar potassium nitrate and sulfuric acid, followed by treatment with sodium hydroxide and methanol, gives 10‐nitromethoxysanguinarine. Successive hydrogenation, diazotization and methanolysis convert 10‐nitromethoxysanguinarine into bocconine.
