A facile synthetic approach to the direct preparation of 3-pyridylzinc bromide has been demonstrated usingRieke zinc with 3-bromopyridine in the presence of a catalytic amount of lithium chloride. A variety of different electrophiles have been coupled to give the corresponding cross-coupling products in moderate to good yields.
