An object of the present invention is to provide a golf ball having a high resilience with a high spin rate on the approach shots. The present invention provides a golf ball comprising a constituting member that is formed from a polyurethane composition containing a polyurethane elastomer as a resin component, the polyurethane composition satisfying properties of a rebound resilience of 54% or more and a shear loss modulus G″ of 5.03×10
6
Pa or less when measured at the conditions of the temperature of 0° C., the oscillation frequency of 10 Hz, and in a shear mode using a dynamic viscoelasticity measuring apparatus.
This invention discloses a method for producing polyarylene thioether by the catalytic oxidative coupling polymerization of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of diaryl disulfides of general formula (I) and thiophenols of general formula (11), wherein R1 to R12 are each as defined in the specification, by using oxygen in the presence of an acid. According to the above method, the reaction proceeds under very mild conditions; the procedure can be simplified; and the starting material and catalyst an available at extremely low cost. Thus, this method is advantageous industrially.

An object of the present invention is to provide a golf ball resin composition that comprises an ionomer resin with an excellent resilience and fluidity. Another object of the present invention is to provide a golf ball excellent in the resilience without lowering the durability significantly in a golf ball using the ionomer resin for the intermediate layer. The present invention provides a golf ball resin composition comprising, 100 parts by mass of (A) an ionomer resin consisting of a metal ion-neutralized product of a ternary copolymer composed of ethylene, α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3 to 8 carbon atoms and α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester, and from 25 parts to 100 parts by mass of (B) a metal salt of a fatty acid having 18 to 30 carbon atoms. The golf ball of the present invention is not limited, as long as it comprises a constituent member formed from the golf ball resin composition of the present invention.
A golf ball 2 includes a core 4, a mid layer 6, and a cover 8. A difference DH in hardness between a surface and a central point of the core 4, a thickness Tm and a hardness Hm of the mid layer 6, a thickness Tc and a hardness Hc of the cover 8, and an amount of compressive deformation Sb of the golf ball 2 meet the following mathematical formulas (DH*Hm)/(Hc*Tc)>80 and ((Sb*Tc)/(Hc*Hm*Tm))*1000>0.75. A hardness Hc of the cover 8 is equal to or less than 40. A material of the cover 8 is a resin composition. The resin composition includes a polyurethane (A) and a polyrotaxane (B).
A solid golf ball with a polyurethane cover is provided which is satisfactory in the moldability of the cover and in ball characteristics such as a shot feeling and a flight distance. The solid golf ball of the invention includes a solid center, an intermediate layer, and a polyurethane cover. A material having a flexural modulus of from 150 to 420 MPa is used for the intermediate layer in order for the golf ball to offer satisfactory shot feeling and flight distance. By the use of a vulcanizate of a rubber composition containing a diphenyl disulfide for the solid center, the golf ball can exhibit an increased flight distance. In order to enhance the moldability of the cover a urethane prepolymer having a residual isocyanate monomer content of not more than 0.5% by mass is used.
