The present invention relates to a compound having a 2-fluorophenyloxymethane structure and useful for organic electronic materials and medical and agricultural chemicals, particularly materials for liquid crystal display elements.
A problem to be solved by the invention is to provide a compound having relatively large Δ∈, relatively high T→i, low viscosity (η), and high miscibility with other liquid crystal compounds, and also provide a liquid crystal composition containing the compound as a constituent component.
The present invention provides a compound having a 2-fluorophenyloxymethane structure and also provides a liquid crystal composition containing the compound and a liquid crystal display device using the liquid crystal composition.
Liquid crystalline composition being an admixture of a group (A) with one or more components exhibiting a positive dielectric anisotropy (Δε) and a group (B) with one or more components exhibiting a neutral dielectric anisotropy wherein
(a) at least one component of group (A) is a compound of the formula I
or a compound of the formula II
or wherein
(b) at least one component of group (B) is a compound of the formula III
wherein R¹, R², Y, Q, X and L¹ through L¹² have the meaning given in Claim 1, can be used in a twisted nematic cell.
