The deoxygenations of a variety of acyclic sulfoxides and selenoxides have been reported with nickel boride in THF at 0-5 degrees C in nearly quantitative yields. The deoxygenations are proposed to proceed by an oxidative-addition and reductive-elimination mechanism. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
