  Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur enzymkatalysierten Hydrolyse von Polyacrylsäureestern, wobei man wenigstens einen Polyacrylsäureester bereitstellt, den wenigstens einen Polyacrylsäureester mit wenigstens einem Enzym inkubiert, das ausgewählt ist unter auf Esterbindungen einwirkenden Enzymen (EC 3.1), bis die in dem Polyacrylsäureester enthaltenen Estergruppen teilweise oder vollständig hydrolytisch gespalten sind, und gegebenenfalls das dadurch erhaltene modifizierte Polymer isoliert. Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft weiterhin die dabei verwendeten Enzyme und Mutanten davon, die Enzyme kodierende Nukleinsäuren, die Nukleinsäuren umfassende Vektoren, die Vektoren umfassende Mikroorganismen, die Verwendung der Enzyme, der Vektoren oder der Mikroorganismen zur Durchführung eines Verfahrens zur enzymkatalysierten Hydrolyse von Polyacrylsäureestern. Die vorliegende Anmeldung betrifft weiterhin durch das Verfahren erhältliche polymere Reaktionsprodukte sowie Verfahren zur Herstellung von Esterasen.
