In this study the synthesis of novel azodyes containing selenium was designed and synthesized with high yields from simple aniline selenocyanate 1 which coupled with some diazotized aromatic amines to give new azodye. The novel synthesized selenium dyes were utilized for silk screen printed polyester fabrics. Color strength and fastness properties were measured and exhibited high efficiency for washing

Triselenium dicyanide is formed by the interaction of malononitrile and selenium dioxide in dimethylsulfoxide or dimethylformamide. Addition of aromatic amines, indoles and some active methylene compounds to this reaction mixture gives the corresponding selenocyanates in one-pot. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
