  An environmentally benign and rapid thiolysis of epoxides using a biodegradable, choline-based task specific ionic liquid has been developed. The ring opening reaction of aryl and alkyl epoxides proceeded rapidly and afforded the corresponding beta-hydroxysulfides in high yields with excellent regioselectivity.
