  The ruthenium-catalyzed oxidation of some representative 1,7-dienes has been investigated. Tetrasubstituted 1,7-dienes are transformed into the corresponding trans-2,7-bis-hydroxyalkyl-oxepanes through an oxidative cyclization process.
