  sense of diastereoselective addition of 2-lithiothiazole 1a to the nitrone 2 derived from d-glyceraldehyde is reversed by the use of Lewis acids (Et2AlCl, TiCl4) as complexing agents; the configuration of the hydroxylamine adduct obtained from 1a and 2 in the absence of the above chelating agents, previously reported from these laboratories was revised.
