    A foam of cross-linked polyethylene having micnocell strucutre is prepared using a chemical cross-linking initiator having a 10 hours half life temperature of from 80°C to 110°C. In a proferred embodiment, the chemical cross-linking agent is employed in combination with co-cross-linking agent such as triallyl cyanurate.

    A composite member comprising a thermoplastic resin and a rubber directly and firmly adhering to each other is rendered to be obtained. A composite member is obtained by adhering a molded element of a thermoplastic resin comprising a homo- or co-polymer of a vinyl cyanide including acrylonitrile, and a rubber molded element comprising a rubber composition containing a vinyl cyanide as a comonomer by means of heating. The resin molded element may be formed from, for example, AS resin, ABS resin or an polymer alloy containing ABS resin. The rubber molded element may be composed of a vulcanizable rubber composition comprising NBR or other rubber. Both the molded elements can adhere to each other by contacting the resin molded element with the rubber molded element closely and heating at least either the resin molded element or the rubber molded element by means of melting, vulcanization or the like.

    An organic peroxide-crosslinkable fiber-reinforced rubber composition obtained by mixing together (1) a rubber composition prepared by mixing 75 parts of hydrogenated NBR (iodine value 11, bound acrylonitrile content 36%, Mooney viscosity 120), 15 parts of methacrylic acid and 10 parts of zinc oxide, and (2) 75 parts of a staple fiber-containing master batch prepared by mixing 25 parts of hydrogenated NBR (iodine value not larger than 30), 25 parts of polyethylene and 25 parts of nylon 6 staple fibers. The mixing of (1) the rubber composition with (2) the staple fiber-containing master batch is carried out at a temperature which is equal to or higher than the melting point of polyethylene and lower than the melting point of nylon 6, and a shear rate of 100/sec to 1,000/sec.
