The 2-thiophenemercuric triflate (6) decomposes at room temperature to give 2,2'-dithienylmercury. The 2-azide (4), when treated with either cyclohexene or triphenylphosphine, gave only the 2,2'-dithienylmercury. All the 2-thiophenemercuric salts decompose at about 300°C to give
