    Various 1H1H-perfluoroalkanes (RFCF2CH2F, R-F = CF3, C2F5, C4F9, C5F11, C6F13, C10F21) were metallated using LDA in a THF solution of ZnCl2 at RT or -78 degrees C to produce the corresponding perfluoroalkenylzinc reagents (RFCF=CFZnCl) in a cis-selective fashion. An increased yield (75-83%) and cis-selectivity (>89%) of the perfluoroalkenylzinc reagents were observed for metallation reactions performed at -78 degrees C. The cis selectivity was excellent for 1H,1H-perfluoroalkanes with larger RF groups (C4F9, C5F11, C6F13, >96%). The cis-perfluoroalkenylzinc [(E)-RFCF=CFZnCl] reagents were coupled with aryl iodides to obtain cis-1-arylperfluoroalkenes [(Z)-RFCF=CFAr] in 71-95% isolated yields. The cis-perfluoroalkenylzinc reagents upon iodinolysis produced cis-1-iodoperfluoroalkenes [(E)-RFCF=CFI] in 68-70% isolated yield. (C) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

    A gas for plasma reaction comprising a chainlike perfluoroalkyne having 5 or 6 carbon atoms, preferably perfluoro-2-pentyne. This plasma reaction gas is suitable for dry etching for formation of a fine pattern, for plasma CVD for formation of a thin film, and for plasma ashing. The plasma reaction gas is synthesized by contacting a dihydrofluoroalkane compound or a monohydrofluoroalkene compound with a basic compound.

    Disclosed herein are agents for enhancing the contrast in a diagnostic ultrasound procedure. These agents comprise colloidal dispersions of the liquid-in-liquid type, i.e., emulsions or microemulsions, in which the dispersed liquid phase has a boiling point at or below the body temperature of the organism to be studied and thus undergoes a phase change from a dispersed liquid to a highly echogenic dispersed gaseous foam or kugelschaum following administration to an organism. The liquid state of the dispersed phase allows one to manufacture extremely stable, pharmaceutically acceptable emulsions with particle sizes typically below 1000 nm. The gaseous state at body temperature yields highly echogenic microbubbles, typically below 10,000 nm in diameter, which are effective as ultrasound contrast agents. Intravenous, intraarterial, oral, intraperitoneal, and intrauterine dosage forms, methods of administration, and imaging techniques are described.
