    Addition interpolymers with pendant ionic moieties and pendant reactable silane moieties are prepared by addition polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers having ionic moieties with organofunctional silane compounds having ethylenic unsaturation in the organofunctional moiety of the silane where the silane also has reactable alkoxy and/or hydroxy groups. The addition polymerization is performed in the presence of a free radical initiator at an elevated temperature up to around 90°C and in an nonoxidizing atmosphere. The amount of the ionic monomer is effective to result in the interpolymer having at least water dispersibility and most suitably water emulsifiability and the amount of the silane monomer is in the range of about 1 to about 15 weight percent of the interpolymer. The interpolymer may be prepared with one or more additional ethylenically unsaturated monomers where the amount does not decrease the ionic character of the interpolymer below that which renders the interpolymer water emulsifiable.

    The present invention relates to a novel block copolymer of structure 1, wherein, A- is a block polymer chain, B is a block polymer chain, wherein, A- and B- are chemically different, covalently connected polymer chains, which are phase separable and the moiety X(Y(Z)b)a is a junction group, which comprises a surface active pendant moiety Y(Z)b wherein: a is an integer from 1 to 4 denoting the number of surface active pendant moieties Y(Z)b on X, b is an integer from 1 to 5 denoting the number of Z moieties on the linking moiety Y, X is a linking group between the A polymer block, the B polymer block and the moiety Y, Y is a linking group or a direct valence bond between X and Z; and Z is a moiety independently selected from, a fluorine containing moiety, a Si1-Si8 siloxane containing moiety or a hydrocarbon moiety with at least 18 carbons, and further wherein the junction group X(Y(Z)b)a has a surface energy less than that that of the block A and less than that of the block B. The invention also relates to a composition comprising the novel copolymer and its use in direct self-assembly processes.

    A responsive microgel is provided which responds volumetrically and reversibly to a change in one or more aqueous conditions selected from the group consisting of (temperature, pH, and ionic conditions) comprised of an ionizable network of covalently cross-linked homopolymeric ionizable monomers wherein the ionizable network is covalently attached to an amphiphilic copolymer to form a plurality of ‘dangling chains’ and wherein the ‘dangling chains’ of amphiphilic copolymer form immobile micelle-like aggregates in aqueous solution. A responsive microgel is further provided that comprises at least one therapeutic entity and delivers a substantially linear and sustained release of the therapeutic entity under physiological conditions.
