The selective synthesis of (Z)‐ or (E)‐3‐aryl/vinyl/alkylidene‐isoindolones, and 2‐benzopyran derivatives from o‐(1‐alkynyl)benzamides by means of a suitable choice of bases or silver catalysis is described.
