The synthesis of the O-β-D-galactosyl derivative 3 of the dihydropteroate synthase inhibitor 6-(3-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)propylamino)-5-nitrosoisocytosine (2) was accomplished through coupling of N-(3-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)propyl)phthalimide (4) with 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-α-D-galactopyranosyl bromide followed by complete deblocking of the resulting β-glycoside 9 with hydrazine and then methanolic ammonia to
