Equimolar quantities of [MoX(CO)(2)(NCMe)(2)(theta(3)-C(3)H(4)R)] and L react in methanol/acetone to give high yields of the acetonitrile displaced complexes [MoX(CO)(2)(NCMe)L(eta(3)-C(3)H(4)R)] {X = Br, L = 3-NaO(2)CC(5)H(4)N, 4-NaO(2)CC(5)H(4)N, 3-NaO(3)SC(5)H(4)N, R = H; X = Cl, L = 3-NaO(2)CC(5)H(4)N, R = H, CH(2)Cl-2; X = Cl, L = 4-NaO(2)CC(5)H(4)N, R = H, CH(2)Cl-2; X = Cl, L = 3,4-(NaO(2)C)(2)C(5)H(3)N, R = CH(3)-2}. Reaction of [MoX(CO)(2)(NCMe)(2)(eta(3)-C(3)H(4)R)] with two equivalents of L in methanol/acetone gave the his (substituted) pyridine complexes [MoX(CO)(2)L(2)(eta(3)-C(5)H(4)R)] {X = Br, L = 3-NaO(2)CC(5)H(4)N, 4-NaO(2)CC(5)H(4)N, 3,5-(NaO(2)C)(2)C(5)H(3)N, 3-NaO(3)SC(5)H(4)N, R = H; X = Cl, L = 3-NaO(2)CC(5)H(4)N, R = H, CH(3)-2; X = Cl, L = 4-NaO(2)CC(5)H(4)N, R = CH(3)-2; X = Cl, L = 3, 4-(NaO(2)C)(2)C(5)H(3)N, R = H; X = Cl, L = 3-NaO(3)SC(5)H(4)N, R = H, CH(3)-2} in high yield. The water solubility of these complexes has been investigated, and the NaO(3)SC(5)H(4)N ligand complexes were found to be completely water soluble. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
