The present invention relates to orthopedic splinting articles and methods for forming orthopedic splints at least part way around an animal body part. The splinting articles comprise a unitary blank formed of an open-celled foam sheet impregnated with a water curable, isocyanate functional, polyurethane prepolymer resin. The blank is dimensioned to extend the length of the body part to be immobilized and to partially, but preferably not completely, extend around the circumference of the body part. Upon activation of the resin impregnated foam sheet and molding the same around the body part, an orthopedic splint is formed.

The present invention relates to novel curable resins and orthopedic casting materials incorporating such, which experience reduced foaming during cure, decreased set times, and/or increased warm wet strength after cure. The present invention relates to novel orthopedic casting materials having superior layer to layer lamination, and methods for preparing the same. The orthopedic casting materials comprise a resin-coated scrim having a plurality of projections along at least one surface thereof. Preferably, each projection comprises a bundle of at least about 8 filaments, and the scrim has from about 75 to about 1500 projections per gram of scrim. The projections serve to mechanically interact with adjacent layers of the material, thereby significantly enhancing the lamination properties of the resultant material and resisting delamination once the material has cured.
