    A process for producing a white polyarylene sulfide of high molecular weight which comprises carrying out a pretreatment by heating to 45-230°C at least one metal sulfide selected from the group consisting of alkali metal sulfides and alkaline earth metal sulfides and having a molar ratio of water/sulfide of 1.2 or less, at least one polymerization aid selected from the group consisting of metal chlorides, metal carbonates and metal carboxylates and water in an amount of 1.3-4.5 mols per 1 mol of said metal sulfide and then reacting the pretreated metal sulfide with a dihalogen aromatic compound in a polar solvent.

    The present invention provides a method of recovering a lithium chloride, which comprises reacting a dihalogenated aromatic compound and an alkali metal sulfide and/or alkali metal hydrogen sulfide in a polar solvent under the presence of lithium chloride, separating a solvent insoluble component from the resultant reaction mixture to obtain a solution, and calcinating a residue obtained by removing volatile substances from the resultant solution, as well as a method of recovering a lithium chloride, which comprises reacting a dihalogenated aromatic compound and an alkali metal sulfide and/or alkali metal hydrogen sulfide in a polar solvent under the presence of lithium chloride, separating the granular polymer ingredient from the resultant reaction mixture subjecting the liquid suspension obtained by said separation to solid-liquid separation and calcinating the residue obtained by removing volatile substances from the resultant solution component.

    The present invention provides a method for recovery of solvent used in production of polyarylene sulfide according to which deterioration of the solvent is little and recovery rate is high and which comprises subjecting a mixed liquid mainly composed of solvent used in production of polyarylene sulfide and generated from production process of polyarylene sulfide to flash evaporating operation to separate the mixed liquid into flashed vapor (A) and flashed residue (B) and then rectifying the flashed vapor (A).

    A method for recovery of lithium chloride wherein a dihalogen aromatic compound is reacted with an alkali metal sulfide and/or an alkali metal hydrosulfide in a polar solvent in the presence of lithium chloride and wherein after polyarylene sulfide particles and a matter insoluble in the solvent are separated from the resulting mixture, lithium chloride is recovered from a residual solution, characterized in that lithium chloride in the residual solution is separated on crystallization. In this manner, high purity lithium chloride may be recovered at a lower cost by a simple equipment, whilst high quality polyarylene sulfide may be obtained.
