  The subject invention includes 1-oxa-1-dethia- cephalosporin compounds represented by the general formula: wherein R' is a group of the formula: where R4 is loweralkyl (1-6 carbons) including a methyl group or an ethyl group, or R' is a group of the formula: where R5 is a hydrogen atom, a 4-ethyl-2,3-dioxopiperazin-1-yl group or a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring having 2 nitrogen atoms as the sole hetero substituent in the ring and having at least one hetero group on the carbon adjacent to the ring nitrogens, and the carbon atom to which the asterisk is attached shows (R)-configuration or (S)-configuration or a mixture of these configurations; both of R2 and R3 are each a hydrogen atom and the other a methyl group, and a pharmaceutically acceptable hydrate, salt of ester thereof. These compounds are useful as antibacterial agents.
