  When triethylaluminium is allowed to react with dicyclopentadienylzirconium dichloride, only ethane is split off and a diamagnetic compound is formed. This compound can be obtained practically free of aluminium. Reaction of the compound with DCl leads to 1,2 dideuteroethane.
