iodonium salt phenyl(trifluoroethyl)iodonium triflimide is shown to activatethioglycosides for glycosylation at room temperature. Both armed and disarmed thioglycosides rapidly undergo glycosylation in 68–97% yield. The reaction conditions are mild and do not require strict exclusion of air and moisture. The operational simplicity of the method should allow experimentalists with a limited synthetic background

Triflates 3c,f react with (trimethylsilyl)arenes under mild conditions to afford the respective (fluoroalkyl) (aryl)iodonium triflates 7, while the analogous reaction with alkynyltrimethylsilanes leads to novel (fluoroalkyl)(alkynyl)iodonium salts 8.

(1H,1H-Perfluoroalkyl)phenyl- and -(p-fluorophenyl)iodoniurn triflates, fluorosulfate, sulfate (3)–(7) were synthesized in good yields by the oxidation of 1-iodo-1H,1H-perfluoroalkanes (RfCH2I) with trifluoroperacetic acid followed by treatment with triflic acid and benzene or fluorobenzene. (1H,1H,5H,5H-Perfluoropentane-1,5-diyl)bisphenylbisiodonium triflate was synthesized similarly. (trans-1H-P
