Taka-acylase hydrolyzed an α-formyl derivative of ε-acyl-l-lysine faster than the corresponding α-acetyl derivative. Preparative resolution by crude Takaacylase afforded ε-formyl or ε-benzyloxycarbonyl-l-lysine from the corresponding α-formyl-ε-acyl-Dl-lysine. The action of p-toluenesulfonic acid on α-formyl-ε-benzyloxycarbonyl-d-lysine under mild conditions afforded pure ε-benzyloxycarbonyl-d-lysine.
