  A group of dithiocarbonate iron complexes CpFe(CO)(2)SC(S)OAr (1) were prepared by the reaction of (mu-S-x)[CpFe(CO)(2)](2) with arylchlorothionoformates (Ar = Ph (1a), 4-C6H4Cl (1b), 4-C6H4F (1c), C6F5 (1d), 4-C6H4CH3 (le)). The conversion of 1 into CpFe(CO)(kappa S-2, S-SC(S)OAr) (2), in which the dithiocarbonate ligand is bonded to the iron through the two S-atoms, can be achieved photolytically. The structure of CpFe(CO)(2)SC(S)O-4-C6H4Cl (1b) is reported. (C) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
