The ligand behaviour of the esters of dithiocarbazic acid NHRNHC(S)SR′ in intensely coloured complexes containing the doubly deprotonated ligands [PtNRNC(S)SR′}2](R = H, R′= CH2Ph; R = CH2Ph, R′= Me or CH2Ph; R = Pri, R′= Me; R = hexyl, R′= Me or CH2Ph) has been investigated by electronic, i.r., and 1H n.m.r. spectroscopy and electrochemistry.
